Ryanair announced another route from and to Finland from Lappeenranta airport. Their target is to get more passengers from Russia and to be the only one airline to rule the Eastern Finland and near by areas in Russia. Ryanair announced their newest route from Lappeenranta to Germany, Weeze twice a week.
Easyjet is also coming to northern market area with the storm. They announced a new route from Helsinki to Paris, offering price to be the lowest ever seen in Finland. 26€ a leg… That isn’t much.
But. The point is, national carriers is struggling with their poor economy, strikes here and there, too much money wasted in useless stuff. There is just a hole where budget airlines fits in. Their economy is in better shape, not in good but not so bad either. Only problem seems to in airport fees, that Finnish government keeps too high. Helsinki airport is too expensive because that airport maintains every other commercial airport in Finland. Maybe reducing the fees in Helsinki brings a lot of competition but then, all the rest of the airports will simply fade away because no funds are floating from Helsinki. That seems a bit odd. Think about it.
One of the reasons why budget airlines didn’t arrived to Finland earlier might have been the fact that the national carrier had the monopoly and partly still have.
Share you thoughts, is there something similar going on in your country?
