Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic.

It looks like the hard times hits the airline and airport business very hard in very near future to those that it haven’t hit already.

But what comes to cutting jobs in airports, especially in ground handling, I think there is something to be cut, at least in Helsinki airport (HEL). I arrived in HEL last Wednesday late at night from Spain and it all went well before I got to the point where the luggage’s should be going. Then started a normal socialist “not my job” attitude. No bags coming in fifteen minutes, nor in thirty minutes. People starts to look angry and someone even called somewhere and asked where those bags are. No answers. Then few bags started to roll on the line and they were all broken… Two more, a plastic bag and a shoulder strap. HA! That’s the way to do it.

I got a little frustrated also, I still had a three hour drive to home with kids but no bags. I looked at the start of the line and saw six pairs of feet standing there and one pair moving and KICKING people’s luggage’s!! WTF!! Can they do that? Is that the morale how to handle job these days?

I don’t know if it is the airport who controls those workers or is it outsourced company but there really is too much work force in Helsinki airport. That kicking guy can be moved to Finnish football team so they may finally succeed, and rest of those should get fired. People may want to take their bags to freight carriers and receive those in a week. Still a better chance to get them in one piece.
