Budget airline Blue1 plans to temporarily lay off all of its 450 employees. The staggered layoffs will last for two to four weeks.

The layoffs are a measure to save costs, according to the airline.

The layoffs will be staggered, begin immediately, and last for eight months in periods of two to four weeks, airline spokesman Tom Christides said.

They will not affect scheduled flights, he added.

Blue 1, Finland’s second largest airline after national carrier Finnair, has been a subsidiary of the Scandinavian SAS group since 1998. It flies to 24 destinations, mainly in northern Europe.

Last year, 1.6 million passengers flew Blue 1.
