Westjet, Air France and KLM have signed a memorandum of understanding to build a new commercial relationship between the three airlines. The MoU allows the companies to begin introducing a code-share agreement in 2009 or early 2010. Prior to this, carriers will contemplate additional opportunities including an interline agreement, acceptance of each other’s e-tickets and trough check-in of baggage and passengers, technology permitting. Possibilities for future frequent flyer programme co-operation will be explored. The code-share agreement would involve the Canadian gateways to Calgary, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, where customers of the airlines could connect with each other’s networks.
