Band of thunderstorms that moved into the Chicago area Saturday afternoon has caused more than 100 flight cancellations at O’Hare Airport.

Thunderstorms  continued Saturday night, when temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 40s, according to the National Weather Service’s Web site. As much as ¾-inch new rain could fall by Sunday morning.

The storms have caused cancellations and delays at O’Hare Airport.

The city’s Department of Aviation reported at 8:30 p.m. delays are averaging more than two hours for all flights arriving and departing O’Hare Airport. More than 100 flights have been canceled due to weather.

At Midway Airport, some flights are being delayed an hour or more with no major cancellations reported.

The department urges all air travelers to contact their airline to check the status of their flights.

Neither the CTA nor Metra are reporting any major weather-related delays Saturday night.

The weather service predicts a 50-percent chance of rain Sunday, mostly before 1 p.m. Temperatures are expected to climb back into the mid-70s Sunday afternoon.

The rain is expected to return early Monday and thunderstorms are possible through Tuesday night, the weather service said.
