Scandinavian airline SAS plans to sell shares of 88% discount suffering the bad loss last year, the toughest loss for 16 years. This is another bad news from Northern European airlines, and makes people think what is ahead in the future. SAS may be hijacked in some point if their economy dives more and more.
But who wants that company? Well, there might be many but my guess is that only few will be interested in serious way. First there will be Finnair, who wants to expand it’s share of Scandinavian markets and gets the planes to cover shorter routes as it’s fleet is now almost completely built for the holiday flights to long distances. Then there is always Lufthansa who buys it for sure if it have the opportunity. But SAS is owned by governments and I think that could bring some problems to give it away from Scandinavia. But the third and the most interesting buyer may come from low-cost airlines. Those airlines have tried to get their markets from Scandinavia recently without any luck at all and there would be a chance to do it. Ryanair would be the one. But of course Ryanair takes only those plane without toilets. No one uses them anyway. SAS is currently not for sale but it sure looks bad that if the economical situation keeps going down, and then we are in a situation when ticket prices will come down and stay there. No matter who buys it.
