State Labour Conciliator Juhani Salonius on Friday presented a proposal aimed at settling job disputes involving Finnair pilots.
Salonius has given the airline and pilots’ representatives until 9 PM on Sunday to respond to his suggested settlement.
If no agreement is reached, pilots of the national carrier will walk off the job next Wednesday and Friday, as well as Monday, Wednesday and Friday of the following week.
Salonius said if the strike could not be averted he would endeavour to ensure that passengers get advance notice by the weekend at the latest.
The strike action was to begin on February 11, but Labour Minister Tarja Cronberg intervened to defer it by two weeks to avoid disruption of the ski holiday season.
The pilots and Finnair are at odds over work-related issues such as pensions, the use of contract labour, days off and the number of pilots on flights. The discussions will also focus on salaries, but neither side considers this question to be an obstacle to reaching an agreement.
