Finnair subsidiary Northport Oy, which provides groundhandling services, will begin statutory negotiations under the Act on Codetermination within Undertakings (YT negotiations) in order to reduce personnel costs. A cost-cutting programme will seek savings of at least 3.5million euros.
“Northport Oy’s operations will be directed in future more at peak traffic periods, outside of which the need for labour is much reduced. The number of flights outside peak periods has clearly declined,” says Northport Managing Director Jukka Hämäläinen.
The estimated reduction of around 90 man working years to be discussed in the YT negotiations could be implemented through redundancies, part-time working and possibly also by outsourcing operations. In addition, possible temporary lay-offs would affect all Northport Oy employees.
