Nepal’s first ever aircraft built by young Nepali engineers has successfully completed its test flight in the western tourism city of Pokhara on Saturday.

According to eKantipur.com report, Nepali license holder Russian pilot, Alexander Maximov, led the test flight of the ultra-light aircraft built by a team of students of the Pulchowk Engineering Campus, Institute of Engineering in the capital Kathmandu.

The two-seater aircraft has a total take-off weight of 400 kg.

The aircraft held its flight for about a minute covering a distance of about 1.5 km.

A student team constructed the aircraft spending about 1 million Nepali rupees (about 12,500 U.S. dollars).

According to the report, the aircraft has been built with an Austrian engine and locally available materials.

After nearly two years of research and documentation, the aircraft was built last year by the Fabrication Group, a research team comprising eight students.
