Turku District Court has sentenced four men to prison for offences following the bankruptcy of the budget airline Flying Finn.
The former managing director, chairman of the board, and two other individuals connected to the company were slapped with sentences ranging from seven to eleven months for aggravated debt fraud or aiding and abetting debt fraud.
Three of the men were handed conditional sentences. One of the individuals was sentenced to nine months in jail due to previous convictions. The men were also ordered to pay some 70,000 euros in damages and about 10,000 euros in court fees.
According to the prosecutor, the men transferred a significant sum of money to company accounts after Flying Finn had gone bankrupt.
Flying Finn began operating in March 2003 and declared bankruptcy about one year later. Some 20,000 customers lost money after buying plane tickets from the firm. Customers who paid for tickets by credit card were reimbursed by credit card companies.
The matter was reported first by Helsingin Sanomat online.
