Athens recently saw the addition of a new cargo carrier. Airgo Airlines commenced regional services in autumn with three weekly flights between Athens and Larnaca on south Cyprus. The route is operated by a BAE-ATP E-class freighter, subleased from West Air Sweden with maximum payload about eight tonnes. Airgo hopes to add a new aircraft in early 2009 and begin service to Turkey, Bulgaria, the Balkans and Albania. “The region lacks an all-cargo European airline that can operate outside of Greece, under the EU safety rules and its institutional framework” said Mr. Stefanou, a managing director. In addition to its regular routes, Airgo also charters flights throughout Southeastern Europe.
