Barack Obama has written a letter to Midwest Airlines expressing concern about the company’s proposed wage and benefit cuts to its union flight crew.

The Democratic presidential candidate asked that all parties weigh all options to protect Midwest jobs.

Obama’s campaign is contracted with Midwest for charter services.

The letter, dated Oct. 10, is addressed to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Timothy Hoeksema (HUK’-seh-mah).

In an e-mail statement, Midwest spokesman Michael Brophy Brophy says the company sent a letter Tuesday to Obama, informing him of the industry difficulties in the wake of last summer’s high fuel prices and economic downturn.

He also says that in better times employees shared in the company’s success through profit sharing and higher wages, but now they have to share in the sacrifice.
